Artist Declaration
Ana Rolaça Costa, born in 1983 in Silves, is a creative visual artist whose works address fundamental issues related to corporeality and the devaluation of identity. Through her paintings and collages, Ana proposes a battle against social norms that impose beauty standards, thus celebrating the true essence of the human being.
Ana Rolaça Costa’s abstract paintings range in size from large to small works, and each serves as a vehicle to discuss the struggle against fallacious assumptions about beauty and acceptance. In this sense, her art becomes a manifesto that questions social norms and promotes the rebirth of the beauty inherent in human beings. Feelings of inadequacy are addressed in a sensitive manner, inviting the viewer to reflect on their own experience.
Her artworks stand out for the striking presence of visceral forms, which are fundamental to her aesthetic. Using layers of oil paint, textures and a play of light and shadow, the artist creates vibrant compositions that capture the viewer’s attention. The color palette evolves over time, reflecting your emotional and creative journey. In the current phase, the artist expands her repertoire by incorporating representations of natural elements, such as plants, symbolizing an essential rebirth in her artistic expressions.
Ana Rolaça Costa’s artistic career is marked by several phases that reveal her creative and introspective evolution. Between 2008 and 2011, the artist explored “Body Perceptions”, encouraging reflections on self-image. The “Púdica Granatum” phase (2011-2012) and the “Beautiful Rawness” phase (2013-2021) follow, bringing out carnal and vibrant tones, while his most recent works, such as “Beetroots and Other Things” (2023-2025), represent an incessant search for new ways of expressing rebirth and transformation.
